a sense of place

your experience
of your place is unique
The tree you pass every day, the way the air smells after rain, the subtle signs of a new season. These details shape how you know your place and help an ordinary landscape become familiar, meaningful, and full of wonder.
A Sense of Place offers a gentle, creative way to notice more, learn the stories of what surrounds you, and create a personal Catalog of Place. As you journey and journal through the natural world, you’ll deepen your connection to it and nurture your sense of belonging within it.

more than a record of nature
A Sense of Place is more than journalng prompts.. It’s an invitation to create a relationship with your place and a record of your life there. That relationship can become a source of grounding , comfort, and beauty, especially during seasons of uncertainty or change.
Over time, you’ll create:
-
A closer relationship with the living world around you
-
A creative practice shaped by your curiosity, time, and way of seeing
-
A personal vocabulary of the colors, words, images, memories, and rituals of home
-
A record of your place, its seasons, and your life within them
-
A deeper sense of familiarity, connection, and belonging
begin here. return through the seasons.
A Sense of Place is a collection of nature-journaling guides for developing a deeper relationship with the place you call home.
Begin with the foundational guide, which introduces a flexible practice of observing, recording, and reflecting. Then return through the year with Seasonal Companions that help you follow the rhythms of each season and create a record of how they unfold where you are.

for the naturalist at heart
You may already journal, walk in nature, sketch landscapes, watch birds, grow herbs, or write poetry. Or you may be longing for a creative practice connected to nature and place, but unsure how to begin.
You don’t need to call yourself an artist or naturalist to keep a nature journal. You don’t need wilderness, special supplies, or hours of free time. Whether you're in your dream location, or simply want to appreciate more deeply where you've landed, you can observe, record, and connect to your place.
Start wherever you are: look more closely, follow your curiosity, and connect to home.
a return to a practice
i love
I began nature journaling with my daughters over 15 years ago. We recorded what we found near our home, gathering observations that helped us understand where we lived and how we belonged there.
That practice later became a workshop and an online course. A Sense of Place is a return to that work, newly imagined for anyone who wants a deeper relationship with the place they call home.
I hope these guides help you to notice what's growing, changing, and waiting just outside your door, and to create a record that could belong only to you.
xoxo - Liz

begin where you are
The place you call home doesn't have to be wild or remarkable.
Your practice begins simply with paying attention to where you are.
